Strawberry Desserts
An Illustration Project by Hazel Le
For this project, I aspired to illustrate a collection of different strawberry desserts. The overall tone and mood are light-hearted, refreshing and adorable, so throughout the project, pink and red are dominantly represented, while the composition is balanced out by light teal color. I chose to illustrate three concepts, namely afternoon tea, sweets cafe and Hanami tea break.
Afternoon Tea
Afternoon tea is the first concept I began the project with. The illustration comprises of a vintage tea pot set and a piece of strawberry short cake, delivering the simplicity and coziness of an English cottagecore afternoon tea.
Sweets Cafe
I went with the theme of “sweets cafe” for the second piece. By painting a combo of luscious strawberry ice-cream and pudding parfait, which are popular in any American-inspired diner, I intended to convey the fun-loving, and gregarious aspect of people who enjoy their time in a busy and vibrant cafe.
Hanami tea break
The third and final artwork is called “Hanami tea break” inspired by Japanese springtime, wherein people spend their time admiring the beauty of cherry blossoms in full bloom with friends and families. I chose to pair teriyaki with a cup of houjicha with the lingering fragrance of sakura petals, creating a serene and peaceful feeling.
